Slutscreen Singapore 2012
SlutScreen Singapore 2012 will be featuring 3 documentaries that examine rape culture, victim-blaming, and slut-shaming. Each documentary will be followed by a discussion.
In addition, we will have 2 local groups sharing their understanding of rape culture in relation various issues in Singapore–in particular, marital rape and the discrimination of sex workers.

Consent Workshop #3
There are many legal definitions of consent, however, these definitions have a tendency to remain abstract and dense. In this workshop conducted by SlutWalk Singapore, we aim to unpack these definitions and ask a (deceivingly) simple question: “What does consent mean for you?”
In this intimate workshop, we aim to catalyze participants to think more deeply about consent, the different ways it may present itself, as well as personal boundaries. We hope that through doing this workshop, we can carve a space and a community that is willing and able to talk openly about sex, sexuality and consent.
If you’ve yet to be able to participate in the first or second consent workshop, do come for this!

SLUTWALK SINGAPORE 2012 (Main Event)
This symbolic gathering on the grass is an effort to break the silence surrounding sexual assault and to provide survivors with a visible symbol of solidarity. There will be booths, speeches, and performances (to be announced soon!). 600 people turned up last year to show their support for sexual assault survivors; we hope that this year we can see more of you!

Am I a slut/ Do I have to be a slut to be a part of this?
You do not need to identify as ‘slut’ to be a part of SlutWalk. Come as you are, and as who you are.No need to wear your sexuality on your sleeve, no need to “vamp it up”.Come in jackets, saris, jeans, t-shirts, tudungs, fishnets, shirts, ponchos & wellingtons (it’s the rainy season after-all!).We welcome anyone who wants to see an end to sexual violence and the prevailing attitudes that perpetuate it.

SlutWalk Singapore Fringe Events (Nov)

Back at Monks (B@M!), in collaboration with SlutWalkSG wants to bring everyone back to the good o’ naughty times. A time when having fun, getting a ‘lil tipsy (Completely Smashed!) and looking smoldering hot didn’t automatically = an invitation to be raped.

Renowned for celebrating homosexuality, the club once known as Mad Monks closed in 2004. But come 1st of Dec 2011 at Home Club, B@M! will return with its doors open to everyone regardless of their gender identity or sexual orientation, to host SlutWalk’s Official Party! LGBT, QABC, DEFG are all welcome!

Come down and exercise your right to party and dress however you like, support the cause and/or have some misconceptions debunked.

Not to be missed! It’s a 100% guaranteed consensual great time!

SlutWalk Singapore (3rd and 4th Dec)

  • Exploring Sex, Sexuality, and Intimacy by sexologist Dr. Martha Lee — talk
  • Sex, sexuality and intimacy are distinct terms which are often used interchangeably. This session aims to explore the difference before discussing what owning your sexuality means and the ways one can better understand/enhance their own sexuality.

  •  SPARKS*: Action for AIDS‘s response to combating HIV/AIDS by Avin Tan — talk
  • Knowledge coupled with action can make a difference and the SPARKS* programme is designed to arm you with basic HIV/AIDS knowledge and how you can play your part to stop HIV/AIDS. You will also learn why there is stigma & discrimination surrounding HIV/AIDS, and have some myths debunked.
  • 4.40PM
  • Promoting Consent, Preventing Coercion:  What Men & Women Can Do to Prevent Sexual Assault by gender equality advocacy NGO AWARE — talk
  • Explores the law on sexual assault in Singapore, myths of sexual assault, and outlines steps men and women can take to prevent or intervene in sexual assault in Singapore.
  • 6PM
  • Challenging Complicities coordinated by Singapore Queer-Straight Alliance (SinQSA) — roundtable discussion
  • Keynote speakers: Wong Pei Chi, Dr. Ingrid Hoofd, and Alex Serrenti
  • An intellectual roundtable discussion on the freedom to gender identity and its alleged complicities in crime and victim-blaming, it also aims to elevate discussion on feminist and gender identity advocacy in Singapore, with two main topics for discussion:
  • i) Drawing the lines between crime, victim-blaming, risk management and “complicity” in crime: how may we, as advocates, best articulate ourselves to effect change in mindsets here?
  • ii) SlutWalk — actual empowerment, reclamation or a continual espousal of male-centric ideas of femininity?

  • Policing Desire and the Whore Stigma by sex workers’ outreach initiative Project X  — workshop
    Anyone can be labeled as a whore/slut if she steps out of The Line. And if you’re labeled a whore/slut, you’re less than human and warrant being treated less than human. As such, some key questions we aim to unpack include: Who constructs these forms of control? How do these forms of control manifest and what are its implications? How do we take back control over our minds and bodies?

Dr. Sketchy is collaborating with SlutWalkSG to bring you a cabaret-themed life drawing session that aims to break free from traditional drawing sessions and will be featuring “The Chief Sluts of SlutWalk Singapore” whom you will be able to draw and interact with. With crazy costumes and poses, nice folks, food and drinks, good music, and prizes to be won, this is an exciting party event that serves as an outlet for all your creative energy. What’s more, it is also a benefit for SlutWalkSG and a portion of the door proceeds will go into funding SlutWalkSG’s events’ operational costs. So, grab your drawing supplies and show us your support at the event! Open to everyone 18 and above.

A documentary by Poh Si Teng, Pecah Lobang explore what it is like to be a Muslim transsexual sex worker in Malaysia. Shot in the Chow Kit red-light district, the documentary revolves around Natasha, a Muslim Mak Nyah who refuses to live life as a man. Unable to secure employment because of discrimination, Natasha turns to sex work and lives life in constant fear of police and religious authorities.

Crossdressing is a crime under the Syariah court system for Muslims and the penalties are severe. But it wasn’t always so. How did Malaysia become so heavy-handed on the transsexual community?

This workshop will aim to unravel participants’ relationship with the term “feminist” using images, questions and participants’ personal experiences as departure points. And it will seek to answer three questions:

What does it mean to be a feminist today in Singapore?
What are feminist values for you?
Why should we try to reclaim the word feminism?
